How to update the W-4 Federal Tax
- Log into EBS, www.ebs.msu.edu
- Under “My Time & Payroll” click on the W-4 Tax Withholding tile.
- Click the pencil icon to review or make changes to your Federal W-4 Tax Withholding
- The following fields can be changed:
- Filing Status: (Single, Married filing separately, Married filing jointly, Widow(er), or Head of Household)
- Multiple Jobs Indicator (This will increase your tax rate)
- Total Dollar amount for Dependents (per year). This replaces allowances
- Other Income (per year) CAUTION: WHATEVER AMOUNT YOU ENTER INTO THIS FIELD, IT WILL BE TAXED!
- Deductions (per year)
- Additional Withholding (per pay period). You must enter an amount, not a percentage.
- Click the Certification box.
- Click the Save and Back button.
- Click on the Cancel button to exit the screen if no changes are made.
Federal Tax Rates
- Tax bracket rates of 10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, 32% and 37% remain in effect.
- 22% federal supplemental rate (for withholding supplemental wages up to $1 million). The rate for supplemental withholding on wages over $1 million is 37%.
To claim tax exempt status for Federal and or State, you will need to complete a paper form and mail to:
